A Few Photos

From the opening night of “Under 500” at Maryland Art Place.  I’m a little late to upload these, but it has been a crazy month and a half. Anyhow, here they are. It was an awesome event–and I am super grateful, proud, and honored to have been a participant among such talented artists:

Infectious Souls

repressionitisThese wigs and this video were made for my Sculpture class with David Page. The assignment was to sculpturally create relational objects/objects of intimate architecture. Filmed in the trains of the DC metro, the cast of this mockumentary consists of artists exclusively. Starring Carey Francis, a phenomenal painter/performance artist/MFA graduate of American University, the mockumentary explores a fictional virus called Repressionitis, which causes victims to feel liberated and uninhibited in public places, where people are expected to act “normal.” The term repression is loaded with social and psychological implications, both of which are exhibited in the mockumentary.

  1. The action of subduing someone or something by force.
synonyms: suppression, quashing, subduing, crushing, stamping out

    • The restraint, prevention, or inhibition of a feeling, quality, etc.
“the repression of anger can be positively harmful”
synonyms: restraint, restraining, holding back, keeping back, suppression, keeping in check, control, keeping under control, stifling, bottling up

      “the repression of sexual urges”
    • The action or process of suppressing a thought or desire in oneself so that it remains unconscious.
    • Antonym= Liberation
